Abstract

Present knowledge of the Pacific floor in- dicates: Postulated subduction zones and/or moving basements overlain by undisturbed sediments. Contiguous mantle convections of conflict ing directions and variable rates. Disharmony between transform faults and mantle convections. =hese features are shown to be difficult to reconcile with conventional hypotheses of sea f 1mr spreading and cast the model into serious doubt.
