Abstract

Today the electrolytic zinc industry is facing unprecedented environmental pressure and low metal prices. Zinc plants have to decide how they will dispose of iron residues in an environmentally friendly way without major capital expenditures. Only low-cost producers will survive, so companies must continuously improve to stay competitive. Therefore, the challenge of the process engineer is to find innovative solutions to the industry's problems. This paper reviews the status of electrolytic zinc processing and provides some insight into how the industry will respond to the pressures facing it
