Abstract

Over the past decade, approximately 5.1 billion pounds of explosives were used annually, on average, in the United States. Most of the explosives were used by the mining industry. The coal mining industry was and still is the dominant user of explosives. About two-thirds of the explosives consumed was used in coal mining.
