Abstract

ALKALINE LEACHING; SODIUM HYDROXIDE U.S. 4,091,071 -In the alkaline digestion of bauxite containing goethite, boehmite and/or diaspore, the process is accelerated by adding to the digestion mass an optimum proportion of calcium oxide and divalent manganese ions, advantageously in the form of a calcium carbonate-containing manganese oxide ore, whereby goethite is transformed into hematite, the alumina yield increased, and loss of caustic soda values minimized.
