Abstract

This paper reviews the state of the art of precision explosive demolition particularly as it pertains to steel bridges. The two key factors affecting the acceptance of this type of demolition/are discussed as well as the physics and performance of the key explosive tool, the linear shaped charge. Methods of planning and executing typical bridge demolitions are discussed and examples of noteworthy engineering tasks given.
