|To assess the future markets for a mineral from a producing district, the following three aspects must be considered: the future growth of the markets, the competitiveness of the district in terms of production costs and reserve adequacy, and the competition from alternative sources of supply. This paper focuses on the first issue by developing a method for predicting the demand for phosphate from trends in the major market for phosphate products, the fertilizer and agricultural market. The paper shows how broad changes in this end-use market for phosphate has evolved over time. These trends are then projected into the future to make an assessment of future phosphate requirements.|
