Dow Chemical Co.'s research in lignite gasification has required that the fuel be upgraded in terms of ash loading and the slagging character of the residual ash. Lignite beneficiation has been shown to substantially reduce the total ash loading and, in some cases, causes very significant reductions in slag viscosity. In support of this work, a slag viscometer was constructed and the viscous flow properties of lignite ash were run as a function of temperature and composition. The flow as a function of temperature was shown to be predictable from the chemical composition. |
