| Vast reserves of oil shale occur in the Green River formation in Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming. The room-and-pillar mining method is applied to flat-lying sedimentary deposits. Important elements in mine design include mine orientation, vertical location of the mining zone, selection of roof horizons, room span and pillar size, barrier pillar size, panel dimension, and layout of mains and submains. |
