|A lysimeter designed to measure suction and collect a pore water sample from unsaturated waste rock has been developed and its performance has been verified in two large scale column tests. The test columns were constructed to bracket the envelope of grainsize curves for waste rock from Northern Saskatchewan. The suction profile within the columns was measured under a series of infiltration rates using tensiometers and these were compared to the lysimeter readings. The rate at which pore water samples could be collected was also measured under each infiltration rate. Lysimeter measurements of suction were found to be slightly lower than the tensiometers.|
