The bulk and surface chemistry of metal ion hydrolysis and precipitation and the redox chemistry of metal ions, sulphur, and other species is central to an under- standing of flotation. The paper contains a review of general hydrolysis-redox chemistry appropriate to the flotation process, and a model of natural and collector-induced flotation of sulphides is constructed. The practical application of the model to real flotation systems is then explored with a view to better under- standing of the chemistry of selectivity and grade control. |
