|This paper presents a new stability mapping system which tightly integrates structural and geologic mapping with geo- mechanical stress analysis for use in support design and mine plan- ning. The structural and geologic input can include such local characteristics as: rock strength, layer thickness, faults, stream val- ley effects, etc. The geo-mechanical stress inputs can include overburden stress, multiple-seam stresses, abutment stresses, etc. The mapping system utilizes the popular AutoCAD/SurvCADD platform as a foundation for inputting the geologic characteristics, and then integrates the boundary-element program LaModel for determining the geo-mechanical stress influences. Additional func- tionality in the system allows the user to transform each individual geologic or stress factor into an individual rating and then the user can apply various weighting functions to the individual factors to generate an overall stability index map for the mine property. A sample case study is included in the paper to demonstrate the basic concepts, procedures and utility of the stability mapping system.|
