This paper describes the use of the sand and plaster physical modelling technique to investigate the deformation around mine roadways using a variety of support methods in a particular form of stress field. The characteristics and conditions of coal measures rock were considered prior to the preparation of the models and the insertion of support The investigation has clearly shown how floor lift, roof failure and sidewall movements of mine roadways in laminated weak rock conditions gradually develops as a result of the increase in the stress and, also, how it is related to the level of support used. |
