Coal mining in Illinois has resulted in many structures being exposed to subsidence damage. Damage mitigation techniques (DMT) applied in the foundation design/construction have proven successful in minimizing damage in several test cases. To determine the practicality of these techniques, the Costs of their application are investigated. The AMT costs are compared to foundation and total house costs for various classes and sizes of houses. An economical and effective subsidence resistant foundation construction is proposed. |
