|Data from these field studies and previous case study data have been combined to define ultra-dose seam mining environments and relate them to observed failure conditions. A rating system for ultra-close multi- seam design has been developed and field studies have verified the applicability of the design criteria according to geologic structures, lithology and spatial data. This rating system has been combined with design and depth considerations to create a protocol for quantitatively predicting potential damage in ultra-dose seam mining conditions. A brief discussion of the characteristics of ultra-dose seam mining and its related failure mechanisms is also presented|
