Roof control in thick-seam mining has long been a difficult problem in mine design and coal mining. In the early 1980's, through ground control instrumentation and investigation the rules of roof strata movement were determined, based on which the sliding roof bar powered support was properly designed and successfully applied to roof control to thick seam mining with caving. Underground trials in Huating Coal Mine produced satisfying results. The technique is being employed in many Chinese coal mines and won the national price for technical advance. |
